This study examines the influence of the habitus for cultivating fisheries talent held by the principals of China’s First College of Fisheries—the Zhili Fisheries Education Institution—on the institution’s establishment and developmental trajectory. Sun Fengzao, the founder and first principal of the Institution, and Zhang Yuandi, who served as principal for the longest period in the modern era, are selected as the primary research subjects. Focusing on the processes through which their habitus for cultivating fisheries talent was formed, this study conducts an in-depth historical analysis. The analytical framework draws on Pierre Bourdieu’s theories of habitus and field. Using historical document analysis, the concept of field serves as the core analytical tool for examining the formation of the principals’ habitus. The findings reveal that both principals developed a shared habitus oriented toward the cultivation of fisheries talent within multilayered fields encompassing the international community, domestic society, education, and the school. This study is significant in that it attempts to analyze the process of cultivating fisheries talent at China's First College of Fisheries, which had previously been confined to introducing the school's history.

본 연구는 피에르 부르디외의 ‘아비투스’ 및 ‘장’ 이론을 차용하여, 중국 최초 수산 고등교육기관인 직예수산강습소의 역대 교장 쑨펑자오와 장위앤띠의 ‘수산 인재 양 성 아비투스’를 심층적으로 분석하고자 하였다. 연구결과 이들 교장들은 국제사회 ‘장’, 국내사회 ‘장’, 교육 ‘장’, 그리고 학교 ‘장’이라는 다층적인 ‘장’에서 ‘수산 인재를 양성하려는’ 공통된 아비투스를 형성했음이 밝혀졌다.
