This article is an anthropological food study illuminating cultural polisemia of nongjiafan (peasant family meals) in China today. Nongjiafan is an interesting category of cuisine which has been popularized as eco-friendly green-foods good for yangsheng (self-health care) and relevant to the rural-urban identity politics in post-Reform China. This study examines the social process of nongjiafan and its surrounding discourses and practices in the changing field of material and symbolic orders of China today. In chapter II, it ethnographically delves into the cultural values and meanings of nongjiafan, from the result of which it induces two sets of discursive system, familial hospitality and green discourse meaningfully shaping the social process of nongjiafan production and consumption. The discussions in the chapter III and IV demonstrate that the production and consumption process of nongjiafan is significantly linked with the cultural construction of rural-urban relations, the rural-urban identity politics, and the radically changing politico-cultural landscape of China today.

이 논문은 농자판(农家饭), 즉 ‘중국판 시골밥’의 문화적 다의성에 관한 연구이다. 농자판은 개혁개방 후 중국인들 사이에서 건강과 양생에 좋은 친환경 녹색식품의 대 명사이자 도농 정체성 정치의 장으로 자리매김한 독특한 음식 범주이다. 이 연구는 북경시 근교 회유구(怀柔区) 안서진(雁栖镇)의 안서계곡과 중국의 광범위한 지역에서 수집한 문화기술지 자료를 기반으로, 농자판 요리의 생산과 소비 그리고 이를 둘러 싼 담론과 실천이 개혁개방 후 중국 사회의 급변한 문화적･정치적 지형, 도농관계의 문화적 구성, 그리고 도농 정체성 정치와 의미심장하게 맞물려 있음을 논증한다.
