This study investigates Chinese speakers’ perceptions and usage patterns of politeness expressions across phonological, lexical, and pragmatic levels. Survey results indicate that a slower speech rate, along with appropriate tone, volume, pronunciation, and intonation, is perceived as more polite at the phonological level. At the lexical level, honorific expressions (您, 贵, 高, 拜) are rated highly in politeness but infrequently used, except for 请, which shows proportionality between perceived politeness and frequency. Honorific titles, self-deprecating, and euphemistic expressions also demonstrate this proportionality, with teachers showing higher usage. At the pragmatic level, the frequency of use generally exceeds perceived politeness, as seen in interrogative and conditional requests, apology forms, and diminutive temporal markers, which are often habitually employed despite weaker markedness. Strongly marked honorific vocabulary is mainly reserved for formal contexts, whereas pragmatic politeness strategies are internalized in daily interaction. The findings suggest that modern politeness expression should be examined through a multidimensional and strategic lens, considering appropriateness and contemporary relevance.

본 연구는 중국어 공손표현에 대한 중국인의 인식과 실제 사용 양상을 분석하여 현재의 관점에서 그 특징과 시사점을 도출하는 것을 목표로 한다. 중국어 공손성 표 현의 유형을 생성 단위별로 분류하여 공손성 표현의 체계를 구성하고, 중국인을 대 상으로 공손 강도와 사용 빈도를 조사하였다. 음운, 어휘, 화용 층위의 21개 항목으 로 구글 온라인 설문조사를 진행하였다. 분석 결과 존대 어휘는 강도와 실제 사용이 반비례하고, 겸양 완곡 어휘와 화용 층위는 비례하거나 사용 빈도가 더 높다. 표지성 이 강한 존대 어휘는 공식적인 상황에서 자주 사용되고, 화용적 맥락적 방법은 이미 내재화되어 습관적으로 사용하고 있는 것으로 보인다. 현대의 공손표현은 적절성·시 대성이 고려되고, 입체적이고 전략적인 관점으로 접근해야 한다.
