Although the research on overseas Chinese-language literature, which has been recently studied in Korea, is rather slow in its progress, it is gradually accumulating in terms of the quantity of works. Examining the existing research on this, the main contents of the works are the longing for the hometown due to the exhaustion and loneliness of life in the residence, confusion, alienation, and conflict due to multiple and mixed identities. This has to do with the transnationality brought about by migration. This paper analyzed the work through Liu Huang-Tian’s proses, by paying attention to the differences between the works characterized by migration and transnationality shown in the existing North American Chinese-language literature. Through this, this paper attempted to improve the quantity and quality of existing studies on North American Chinese-language literature. Liu Huang-Tian’s Proses focus on the universal problems of human life through interest and observation of a single human rather than the lives of overseas Chinese who left China, their origin and live in the United States, where they reside. The observer‘s gaze of Liu Huang-Tian focuses on the attitude and life of a human being’s living in solidarity with the exclusion of discrimination against a particular country, ethnicity, or race. In this way, Liu Huang-Tian’s proses should be regarded as migrant literature with multiple characteristics, not limited to any particular country or region, due to the transnationality of time and space. The nature of the boundaries and gaps that the transnational migrant literature has seems to have the potential of world literature as well.

필자는 본고에서 刘荒田의 산문을 통해 기존의 북미 화인화문문학에서 보여주었던 이주와 초국가성의 특징으로 묘사되었던 작품 내용과의 차이점에 주목하여 작품을 분석하였다. 이를 통해 북미 화인화문문학에 대한 기존 연구의 양적, 질적 향상을 도 모하고자 한다. 刘荒田의 산문은 출발지 중국을 떠나 거주지 미국에서 살아가는 화 인들의 일상보다는 한 인간에 대한 관심과 관찰을 통한 인간 삶의 보편적이고 철학 적인 문제에 주목한다. 刘荒田의 관찰자적 시선은 특정 국가나 민족 또는 인종에 대 한 차별을 배제한 채 함께 연대해서 살아가는 한 인간의 삶의 태도와 인생에 맞춰있 다. 刘荒田의 산문에는 시간과 공간의 초국가성으로 인한 특징들이 나타난다. 이것은 어떤 특정 국가나 지역에 국한된 것이 아닌 다중적인 성격을 지닌 문학으로 화인화 문문학을 이주자 문학으로 간주할 수 있다. 초국적 이주자 문학이 가지는 경계와 틈 새의 특징은 화인화문문학에도 상당수 나타나고 이것은 또한 세계문학의 가능성도 동시에 지닐 수 있음을 시사한다.
