This paper examines how the story of Du-shiniang originated from The Faithless Lover by Maocheng Song in the Ming dynasty and was transformed into a vernacular short story, Du-Shiniang Sinks Her Jewel Box in Anger, by Menglong Peng, and then retold by Yutang Lin. Maocheng Song ideally depicts the courtesan Du-shiniang based on the figure of faithful woman with a strong will in confucian culture, Borrowing objective attitudes and historical narrative. The Faithless Lover was a narrative to comfort Du-shiniang’s resentment, and in comparison, Menglong Peng rewrote to praise Du-shiniang for her faith love that embodied in her xia(chivalry) and qing(love) characteristics in the story. and to cultivate and enlighten his readers. In addition, the lessons were reinforced by adding the ending of causal justice according to the good and the evil deeds of the characters. Miss Tu retold by Yutang Lin embodied a modern girl who was praised for his outstanding singing talents and longed for equal love. In sympathizing and defending the male protagonist, he stressed that their tragedy was not due to betrayal of the male protagonist, but because of the nature of romantic love affair. Thus, the story of Du-shiniang has evolved into a modern love story that compliments the romantic love affair and announces its danger.

본고는 두십낭 고사가 명나라 말기 송무징의 전기「負情儂傳」에서 기원하여 풍몽룡의 백화단편소설「 두십낭이 분노하여 백보상을 던지다(杜十娘怒沉百寶箱)」 를 거쳐 임어당의『미스 두(Miss Tu)』로 변천한 과정을 고찰하였다. 송무징은 유가의 열녀 형상에 입각하여 역사가의 객관적 태도와 역사서술방식을 차용해서 두십낭을 이상적으로 묘사했다.「負情儂傳」이 두십낭의 원망을 위로하기 위한 서사였다면, 풍몽룡은 변치않는 사랑을 실천한 두십낭을 송양 하고 독자를 교화하기 위해 다시 썼다. 그리고 등장인물의 선행과 악행에 따른 인과응보의 결말을 첨가함으로써 교훈성을 강화했다. 임어당의『미스 두』는 뛰어난 노래재능을 사회에서 인정받고, 평등한 사랑을 주체적으로 추구하는 근대적 여성으로 두십낭을 형상화했다. 그리고 남자주인공을 동정하고 변호하면서, 이들의 애정비극은 남성의 배신으로 인한 것이 아니라 낭만적 애정의 속성으로 인해 빚어진 것이라고 강조했다. 이리하여 두십낭 고사는 낭만적 사랑에 대한 찬사와 그 위험성을 알리는 근대적 애정소설로 진화하였다.
