The purpose of this paper is to classify Sino-Korean words and to analyze how those phonetic transcriptions have written in the Korean language policy. Sino-Korean words are grouped in accordance with their linguistic features as Koreanized common nouns, Chinese proper nouns, new conceptual words in the Chinese way, and idiomatic words by transliteration. Among them, Koreanized common nouns are pronounced in Sino-Korean sounds (namely in Korean), and proper nouns and new conceptual words are pronounced according to proper Chinese orthography. The reason why this discrepancy occurs is by the use of Chinese characters in Korea. Korean people used Chinese characters as written forms before the invention of Hangul, so every Chinese character has come to have its own pronunciation in Korean. But these days, Koreans do not usually use Chinese Characters, and new Sino-Korean words are considered as foreign words. Moreover, as Chinese pronunciation totally changed over time, Sino-Korean sounds and Chinese have become completely different. From this point of view, this paper analyzes the phonetic transcriptions of Sino-Korean words by paying careful attention to distances among them. This should be an important criterion for the phonetic transcriptions of Sino-Korean words.

한국에 유입된 한자어는 국어화한 보통명사, 고유명사, 새로운 개념어, 그 외 개별 음역 차 용어로 나눌 수 있다. 이들 중 국어화한 보통명사는 한국 한자음으로 표기하고, 개별 음역 차 용어는 단어마다 특유의 독음법이 정착하였다. 반면 고유명사와 새로운 개념어는 한국 한자 음과 중국 원지음을 기반으로 한 표기라는 두 가지 독음 방법 사이에서 혼란을 겪고 있다. 한자는 다른 외국어와 달리 국어의 영역에 있었으나 현대에 와서 외국어로 인식되기 시작했다. 한자어의 독음에 대한 논쟁은 이러한 인식 차이에서 기인한다. 본 논문은 이러한 관점에 서 중국에서 유입된 한자어를 분류하고 그 독음 표기가 가지는 문화적 의미를 분석한다.
