Abstract

The basic point that YuJian’s poetry was trying to get across is against turing the ruling ideology into a poetic statement. He disagreed with criticizing the Cultural Revolution of ‘Misty poetry’ in this sense. The contents of YuJian’s poetry are in pursuit of depicting the details of one’s realistic daily life. His poems are boring in general, however, based on the subjectivity and self-consciousness.
After the end of the Cultural Revolution, his Avant Garde poetry could earn the positive reviews during the time when the left was collapsing and the right was forming the new organization. He lived a dull and monotonous life in Kunming far away from the capital city so he expressed his unique and artistic style ‘unity of man and nature’ about Yunnam’s nature.
But he recognized there was a crack in his consciousness of ‘unity of man and nature’ after China’s reform and opening up. Marketization destroyed everything familiar and he gradually expanded the safe zone where he could criticize the reality as he realized his social position. YuJian’s poetry was changed from naturalism to realism. His poetry shows the expectation of freedom. And on the other hand, it reflects the awareness of sanctity of life by warning of environmental destruction.
