The study on the Influence of cognition of face on behavior of personal opinion expression between South Korea and China

Abstract

The main purpose of the study is to find out the correlation of two factors, 'Face'(face in open space and with people) and the 'Opinion Expression(offline and online)' through two countries, Korea and China.
The results of this study shows that most Chinese people are hostile to express their own opinions on offline but they more tend to express their opinions online compare with Korean people. This study found that Chinese men group is showed the most strongest willingness to express their own opinions between all groups regardless of offline or online. However, even if that Chinese people is more active in expression online than Korean people but they tend to decrease in expression of opinion if they realize that their identity is exposed to public.
The study also covers that Chinese people are more sensitive than Korean people to situations which is on face threatening acts, especially the men compare with women. Plus, the young people are more concerned with the face around their friends and acquaintances, whereas the older people are relatively hostile to lose their face in front of unspecified individuals.
It also confirms that both face factors ‘Face in Open Space and with people’, performs a partial channel on ‘Opinion Expression on Online’ and ‘Opinion Expression on Offline’ in Chinese case.
