A principle of three pole points system of monophthong in Modern Chinese and its teaching strategies
Abstract
This article covers a principle of three pole points system of monophthong in Modern Chinese, and then explores its teaching strategies. The results of this study are as follows:
Firstly, Monophthong in Modern Chinese is constructed by a principle of three pole points system, namely high front point, high back point and low point.
Secondly, Monophthong in Modern is four, namely /i/, /y/, /u/ and /A/.
Thirdly, Mid-vowels is a diphthong, not a monophthong in Modern Chinese.
The teaching strategies are as follows:
Firstly, pronounce and practice Chinese vowels with leverage principle which is formed by fulcrum and lever, e.g. weakness of sounds, initial sound, final sound etc.
Secondly, pronouncing Chinese vowels always takes far longer than you anticipate.
