Internet-based Political Participation : New changes in China’s political environment

Abstract

The Internet changes the social communication. It indicates thedemocratic political innovation. The research on the networkdemocracy and electronic democracy becomes the importantpolitics science issue. Some scholars think some of the isolatedcountries such as The People's Republic of China, TheDemocratic People's Republic of Korea will inevitably movetowards democratization road under the impact of the Internet.
This paper is as this background to reveal the new mediawhich represents by Internet bring changes in China's politicalenvironment. The paper considers that the internet is providedwith early democracy characteristics in China. It influencesChina's political environment, and has brought the followingchanges: to promote the construction of the interactiverelationship between the government and people; to promote thetransformation of the traditional political culture to modernpolitical culture; to expand the channel of social supervision; torecover the defect of supervision system in the transition period.
In brief, the Internet is rapidly penetrated into all aspects ofChina's political life. It is as"the fourth mouth piece" to berebuilding the modern China's political environment. Chinesecitizens’ participation in the internet has made great achievementsin past 20years, although the results can not cover up "digitaldivide", "network despotism", "populism tendency" and so onexisting issues in current network politics. However, it cannot beignored that Chinese citizens play the role in network politicalparticipation, along with network order is constantly governance.
